Generally, the hair transplant treatment is possible for every man or woman who has a healthy hair ring on the back of their head. And whose hair loss is not the result of illness and/or medicinal use.
The size of the site that is bare or thin, determines the amount of grafts that is needed for a natural cover. The larger the surface the more grafts are needed for a good-looking result.
A high density provides many available grafts and a certain number of grafts can be harvested. This is very favourable when a large site requires treatment.
Blond, black or curly hair all give different results. Curly hairs cover very well, so very good results are achieved with relatively few grafts. Blond hairs tend to be thinner and cover less than other hair colours needing the highest possible number of grafts placed to create a good density.
It’s often difficult to understand the terminology and its significance. The following terms are used frequently. ˙ Implants ˙ Grafts ˙ Transplants ˙ Follicular Units (FU) All terms indicate the amount of the hair groups. A graft consists of 1 to 4 hair follicles.
The final result is visible after 9 to 12 months. After 12 months you will be invited by us to assess the final result on the basis of the photos taken on the day of the hair transplant. Up to 90% of the hairs will fall out in the first 3 to 5 weeks. This is a natural process and no reason to worry. The new hairs will grow after a about a 4-month break. On average, the hair will grow 1 cm per month. After 8 to 9 month your hair will be about 5 cm long. Starting off, the growth of the grafts will be uneven, longer in some places than in others. This will stabilize itself over time. In the beginning the hair can be very fine and thin, or wrinkle and curl while your hair usually does not. Over time, the transplanted hair will grow thicker and stronger and will return to its natural characteristics. Longer hair creates more volume, so it’s best to wear a hairstyle with a minimum length of 5 cm to increase the volume.
After the grafts (groups of hair roots) have been implanted, the skin will be slightly red. In addition, small scabs will form on the recipient site. From the second day after the treatment you may start washing your hair. You will receive a special shampoo for the first weeks after your hair transplant. When you start washing you will see that more and more small scabs disappear every day until eventually no scabs remain at all. Just some redness may remain. This redness will fade away until nothing is visible anymore. Whether a hair transplant remains visible after the treatment also strongly depends on the recipient site. When implanting in between existing hairs it will be less noticeable than when there aren’t any hairs in the recipient site and it’s a ‘bald’ area. During the initial consult, we can estimate your probable scenario.
The treatment has an average duration of six to eight hours, using the FUE method. Of course, this depends on the nature of the transplant and the amount of grafts to be transplanted.
There are no health insurance companies known to us that will reimburse the cost of a hair transplant if there is hereditary hair loss or androgenetic alopecia. If there is a medical indication due to a disease or accident, it’s advisable to check this with your health insurance.
The price depends on the number of grafts to be transplanted. Through an overview on our website you can estimate roughly what the cost for your transplant will be. The exact costs of the hair transplant can be determined in a personal consult with one of our advisors.
During 2 or 3 weeks, we advise you to refrain from exercise or performing strenuous physical exertion. From week 3 onwards you can start exercising again (jogging, cycling, tennis) provided these are not contact sports (football, rugby or other similar sports). After 1 month you can resume all sport activity again.
Performing heavy physical labour, as well as work in dusty areas should be avoided for about two weeks. A week of rest is recommended at all times.
Yes, the transplanted hairline looks just like a natural hairline. The many years of experience of our surgeons with over 5000 treatments to their name have ensured this. Check out our photo gallery to see for yourself.
The amount of hair transplant treatments required varies per person. This depends, among other things, on the determined goal and the degree of baldness. For smaller baldness, one treatment is usually enough. For larger baldness, a second treatment is a good option. However, the first treatment will be carried out in such a way that it will suffice on its own and you can decide later whether or not to plan a second treatment. If you use or will use Finasteride, a follow up treatment can be avoided. The advisers will give you detailed advice on this during the initial consult.
We guarantee you that all (96%) of the transplanted hair will continue to grow for the rest of your life. This depends, amongst other things, on the determined goal and the degree of baldness. A better question is: How many hairs can we remove in one session? Using the FUE method, the hairs to be transplanted are harvested from the back of the head. An average man from Western Europe has 60-80 grafts available per cm2 on the back of the head. With a Norwood scale 4, the surface soon becomes 100cm2. In this situation, a hair density of up to 32FU per cm2 (3200FU’s/100cm2) could be achieved. However, it is possible to transplant to the hairline with 40/45FU per cm2 whilst 30FU per cm2 will be transplanted to other sites. In a consultation session, a hair analysis examines the current density of your hair to see which solution is available to you.
No. The treatment takes place under local anaesthesia and can therefore be compared to a visit to the dentist. You will also receive an analgesic afterwards.
A visa is mandatory for Dutch and Belgian citizens! Make sure that you’ve purchased your visa online prior to your travel to Istanbul. This prevents waiting times at customs in Turkey, plus it’s cheaper online too. To apply for a visa, go to the following website.
It’s hard to predict how the grafts will react after the hair transplant, therefore we have decided not to offer treatments to people with HIV/HEPATITIS B or C.
With a hair transplant performed according to the FUE method, this depends on the size of the needles that are used. If these are between 0.5mm and 1.0mm thick, no visible scares can be detected, even with a shaved haircut.
